Who we are

This is Sage’s Acre, a website dedicated to backyard gardening, suburban homesteading, home projects and recipes. The site is run by me, Sage Osterfeld. I take privacy seriously. This site uses cookies to personalize the experience for you. However, they are your cookies. I don’t look at these, I don’t sell them, re-market them, or anything else. Your info is yours. Nonetheless, it’s good practice to tell you what information the site collects and how it is used. Here you go:

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here:<https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. We won’t use this information, but visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

If you place an order with us, the order information excluding payment information will be encrypted and securely sent to our fulfillment service to fulfill the order.

Your credit card details will be securely transmitted to our credit card processer (Stripe or PayPal depending on the payment method you select). We do not store your payment information, nor do we have access to it.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you choose to create an account with us, your information will be encrypted and stored within our customer database. Customers who are inactive for more than 365 days are automatically purged from the system. For all others, we retain the information for 60 days (for the purposes of legal and accounting) before purging it from our system.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

Your data belongs to you, not us. If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments and form submissions are checked through automated spam detection and robot services (Akismet and Cloudflare). Transactional data is shared with our payment provider(s) and fulfillment service. Only the minimum amount of information required to complete the transaction is shared.

Editorial Guidelines

Last Updated: 8 December 2025

My mission at sagesacre.com is to provide useful information, tips & tricks for gardening, home improvement and food for people who like to grow and make things. I believe that trust is earned through transparency. Below, you will find my standards for content creation, fact-checking, and the use of technology.

1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

I use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist me with outlining and structuring content so it’s relevant to my readers. I sometimes also use AI for grammar suggestions. That said, I never use AI to generate final content autonomously. Every article is written and reviewed by a human expert (me or my wife) who has experience in the field. Once in a while we use AI to create an image or diagram because neither I nor my wife is an artist, but we always we prioritize real photos and diagrams from our own property.

2. Fact-Checking Standards

Accurate information is the core of my reputation. To ensure the information I present is reliable:

  1. Primary Sources: I prioritize my own actual experience as opposed to what others say or write. If I cite someone else, I link to their work, official documentation, and/or expert interviews. I don’t cite other “roundup” blogs as proof of anything.
  2. Verification: Before publication, all statistics, technical steps, and product claims are double-checked. If we are writing a tutorial, we test the steps ourselves to ensure they work as described.
  3. Expert Review: Content involving sensitive topics (such as finance, health, or complex technical code) is reviewed by a subject matter expert before publication.

3. Corrections Policy

I strive for perfection, but I am human. If an error is published, I acknowledge it and correct it promptly. If you spot a factual error, a broken link, or outdated information, please contact me at hello@sagesacre.com.

I try to correct minor typos (spelling/grammar) immediately. Significant factual errors will be corrected, and a note will be appended to the article indicating the nature of the correction and the date it was made.

4. Product Review Integrity

I don’t participate in affiliate marketing programs, but if I did, and I earned a commission if you purchase through my links, I would disclose this. This, however, would not influence my recommendations. If I test or review a product, what I write would be based on actual usage and testing of the products. I do not accept payment from brands in exchange for a positive review. If a post is sponsored, it will be clearly marked as “Sponsored Content” at the top of the page.
