Brazilian Edelweiss in Bloom

By Published On: November 20th, 20190.4 min readCategories: Photos

Not knowing much about how Brazilian Edelweiss (Sinningia leucotricha) grows, I kind of thought I had killed the poor thing because it dropped all its leaves a few weeks ago. Turns out that wasn’t the case at all. Several days ago it started growing new leaves and to my surprise this morning I was greeted with two little salmon colored flowers! (They’re supposed to be fragrant, but I don’t smell anything.)

Can’t wait to see it all leafed out again. I hope it blooms a bunch.

Hi. My sinningia had flowered 2 years in a row. (i call it bunny ears due to its fuzzy leaves).
I am intrigued to read that yours had grown leaves and flower in November?
Mine flowered in MAy, and I reside in London UK.
May I ask which part of the globe are you at?
Also I have posted updated photos on my instragram @rococogadget.
Please get in contact and let’s compare care tips?

Hi Rolynce. I’m in San Diego, California. This far south there’s only a couple hours difference in day length between winter and summer, so it may be that my plant feels it’s fine to bloom at any time of the year. It’s currently leafing out quite a bit, so it may flower again here in the next few months. I added you to my Instagram so we can chat there.
