Garden Surprise Squash
Ever meet two siblings that look nothing alike, but if you sort of squint, you can see how each sort of looks like their parents?
I saved some seeds from a single yellow straightneck squash last year and planted those seeds this year. Now I’m getting two varieties of squash — neither of which is the small, smooth, green-stemmed squash mamma was.
No wonder the principles of genetic inheritance were first detailed by a gardener.
