Two chickens peering through a sliding glass door

Red Menace and Fluff a Buff trying to use their chicken mind control to get snacks

So a couple weeks ago I opened the gate on the side yard to let the chickens come up and clean out the weeds by the propane tank and recycling bins.

The girls did a great job at completely clearing the weeds in just a few days, and so most returned to the lower yard where the scratching and pecking prospects are better.

However, two chickens, Red Menace and Fluff a Buff, have steadfastly refused to abandon the side yard and now spend a lot of time peering through the sliding glass door looking for handouts.

I think Fluff is practicing her sad eyes.

I’m just a guy with nearly an acre of dirt, a nice little mid-century ranch house and a near-perfect climate. But in my mind I’m a landscaper survivalist craftsman chef naturalist with a barbeque the size of a VW and my own cable TV show. I like to write about the stuff I build, grow and see here at Sage's Acre.
