A Zinnia Flower Joins the Circus

Solids and stripes on the same zinnia plant

For the most part, the Zinnias that have nativized themselves in the herb garden are a solid purple. But I was down there yesterday and noticed one plant has a mix of large solid purple blooms along side some smaller ones that have purple on the upper side of the petals and white on the underside. Makes them look striped like a circus tent.

I’m not sure why this plant is doing that, but I like the way they look. I think I’ll try and collect some seed and see how the next generation grows.
