A Couple of Frogs Stopped by Today
Pair of mystery amphibians made a sudden appearance
Living outside the city (and next to an Audubon Preserve), it’s not all that unusual to run across wild critters. There are the bird of prey, furry visitors like possums, raccoons, and coyotes, snakes and lizards… even giant, trantula-eating wasps.
What’s less common, though, are creatures that generally like to stay near water. There is a pond nearby, but it’s downhill, around 1,000 feet away, and separated by very dry, rough chaparral.
So I was more than a little surprised today to find a small frog hanging out on a lilypad in my pond like he was some sort of prince waiting for a princess to kiss him.
I was even more surprised to find a second frog on another lilypad a couple of feet away.
Years ago I spotted another frog sitting in the pond too, but he disappeared shortly thereafter.
I don’t know if it’s because it’s been unusually dry this year so they’re venturing out further in search of new water, or frogs randomly teleport into the pond every so often.
Either way, like the frog visitor from years ago, both of these guys were gone when I came back to look in on them later in the day.
