A home, a yard, a never-ending adventure

Winter in San Diego

By Published On: January 26th, 20210.6 min readCategories: Garden, Photos

So, we had a week of hot Santa Ana winds followed by a brutal storm that brought high winds, heavy rain and, just to top it off, freezing temperatures.

The wind took down two banana trees, ripped a very large cluster of Mexican Sunflower out of the ground, and turned my side yard into the tornado scene in the Wizard of Oz.

Wind and hail makes a mess

And just in case that wasn’t enough, Mother Nature then went ahead and dumped an inch of hail, which froze and turned my yard into an improvised ice skating rink.

I can’t wait for this winter to be over.

I’m just a guy with nearly an acre of dirt, a nice little mid-century ranch house and a near-perfect climate. But in my mind I’m a landscaper survivalist craftsman chef naturalist with a barbeque the size of a VW and my own cable TV show. I like to write about the stuff I build, grow and see here at Sage's Acre.
