Why an Herb Garden is Worth It
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so we’re doing some pre-meal prep before the family comes over. I do the turkey and turkey-related stuff like gravy and stuffing, the missus does the sides.
On Monday she made cornbread. On Tuesday she cubed and toasted it in the oven to make the bread cubes I will use for the stuffing. This morning she asked me, “what herbs are we going to coat the cornbread with before you turn it into stuffing tomorrow?”
“I don’t know,” I said. “I’ll see what’s in the garden.”
And down to the herb garden I went. Turns out I had a fairly good selection, so I clipped extra to add to the brine I put the turkey in overnight.
This year’s turkey and stuffing will be seasoned with fresh rosemary, oregano, thyme and sage with a little fresh bay leaf thrown in for good measure.
As I was standing there in the garden with my fist full of herbs, I knew all the effort was worth it.
This is why you have an herb garden.
