Orange Marmalade Aloe showing how it got its name

The good thing about succulents is that the drier and hotter it is, the better they look (which is more than I can say about most every other plant around the Acre right now).

My current favorite is this little guy, “Orange Marmalade”. When it’s cloudy and cold he’s kind of a blue-green, but when it’s hot and sunny, he turns orange.

He’s been sitting with the other little succulents at the west end of the greenhouse in full sun since May with almost no water and he looks absolutely splendid.

I’m just a guy with nearly an acre of dirt, a nice little mid-century ranch house and a near-perfect climate. But in my mind I’m a landscaper survivalist craftsman chef naturalist with a barbeque the size of a VW and my own cable TV show. I like to write about the stuff I build, grow and see here at Sage's Acre.
