Found a new friend this weekend

I got to enjoy every homeowner’s nightmare over the weekend when a pipe in the crawlspace of my old house decided to give way and attempt to turn my living room into a lagoon.

After hacking through the ceiling in four or five places, I finally found the offending pipe and repaired it. Fortunately, most of the common areas of the house are tile, so the damage was limited to drywall and insulation which are pretty easy to replace.

One bright spot — I got to make a new friend. I came face-to-face with the varmit in the photo right next to the broken pipe.

Because I’m a terrible husband I naturally sent my wife up the ladder to “take a look at the pipe.” Her reaction was completely worth the boot in the face I received when she screamed and nearly fell off the ladder.
