On a west-facing hillside I have a whole bunch of “little-big” plant pairings. This particular set is the world’s smallest flowering bulb, a garlic chive, and the world’s tallest, the giant white squill.

The chives max out around 12-15 inches, but the squill will reach 6 feet or more. Here’s a little video of the two enjoying the August sun yesterday.

If you look closely at both plants, it’s interesting to see how similar the flowers are. The blooms are about the same size, but the squill produces a heck of a lot more of them.
