Carrots in flower in a garden

Carrots in flower next to some beans, tomatillos, and tomatoes

I’d like to say the reason the keyhole garden looks so lush at the moment is because of all of my hard work, but that would be a lie. I’m fairly lazy and tend to let things go au naturale until they become so overgrown they’re a fire hazard or wild critters start taking up residence.

What you’re looking at here is some of last spring’s carrots gone to flower among the early summer tomatoes, tomatillos and beans. It all looks quite green and leafy, and it’s 100% accidental. (I didn’t even plant the tomatoes and tomatillos, they’re volunteers from last year’s crop that I didn’t completely clean up.)

Even though it’s nature doing her thing, I’m taking credit.

I’m just a guy with nearly an acre of dirt, a nice little mid-century ranch house and a near-perfect climate. But in my mind I’m a landscaper survivalist craftsman chef naturalist with a barbeque the size of a VW and my own cable TV show. I like to write about the stuff I build, grow and see here at Sage's Acre.
