Gaucho the Magnificent travels by imperial wheelbarrow

History buffs know that emperors have their preferred way of getting around. Alexander rode a bejeweled elephant. Caesar had his gold chariot and four matched horses. Napoleon preferred an Arabian stallion named Marengo.

Gaucho the Immortal, Chicken Emperor of the Acre, Eagle Among Poultry, First Rooster of the Roosters of the Valley, likes a wheelbarrow loaded with compost.

He’s 14, and doesn’t mind a ride to the vegetable garden to top off the bean beds and rest them for the next few months. To make sure I do it correctly, Gaucho will oversee my shovel work, and handle the raking and leveling of the beds himself… probably all at the same time.

I’m just a guy with nearly an acre of dirt, a nice little mid-century ranch house and a near-perfect climate. But in my mind I’m a landscaper survivalist craftsman chef naturalist with a barbeque the size of a VW and my own cable TV show. I like to write about the stuff I build, grow and see here at Sage's Acre.
