A Striped Pepper

I was out in the garden picking peppers to pickle when I came across this Italian frying pepper who’s chosen to change color from green to red with stripes instead of the usual blush.

This pepper is going from green to red with stripes of color

I wonder if the Italians got the idea for their flag from a pepper like this..
