That’s No Cabbage – That’s a Dinosaur Kale!

Beware the free cabbage seeds. They might not be what they seem

My free cabbage seeds turned out to be a giant kale instead

Ok, I’m chalking this one up to bad labeling by the person I got the seeds from.

She told me it was an unusual cabbage, but it’s now obvious that it’s no cabbage, it’s a dinosaur kale (aka Lacinato or Tuscan kale).

I think I understand why its called dinosaur kale too, because it’s an absolute monster. It’s a good foot taller and two feet wider than the cabbages and carrots around it in the keyhole garden.

Admittedly, the keyhole garden is starting to look like Jurassic Park

While I’m not a fan of kale (monster greens don’t do it for me), my wife swears that it’s really good when you cook it right. She’s going to make some minestrone with it to prove it to me.

Until I’ve had the minestrone, I remain skeptical.
