Blackberries are early this year

Blackberries ripened a full month early this year

Normally we would see them ripening in mid-June, but the unusually warm winter woke them up in February and had them blooming by March.

Unfortunately, the bees weren’t out in force yet so a lot of flowers went un-pollinated.

I doubt we’ll harvest more than a pound or two, so we probably won’t be making blackberry jam this year. But at least we have fresh berries for the next few weeks.

THey’re early but at least they look nice and taste good

I’m just a guy with nearly an acre of dirt, a nice little mid-century ranch house and a near-perfect climate. But in my mind I’m a landscaper survivalist craftsman chef naturalist with a barbeque the size of a VW and my own cable TV show. I like to write about the stuff I build, grow and see here at Sage's Acre.
